Why I became a celebrant
My mother’s death was a shock, in the midst of our grief, my family and I struggled with how best to honour her. She was full of life and a real character—someone who had once attended church but wasn’t deeply religious. We wanted a service that reflected both the faith that was a part of her past and the uniqueness that defined her. However, we felt our only options were a traditional religious ceremony or a humanist service with no spiritual element. Neither felt quite right.
Then I discovered the role of the independent celebrant—professionals who can craft a service tailored to what you want, blending traditions, personal reflections, and, if desired, religious elements. This discovery changed everything for me.
I am a professional celebrant, trained by the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, dedicated to honouring each person’s unique story and legacy. With over 30 years in the corporate world as an executive coach, educator, and public speaker, my career has centred on the art of communication and storytelling. Additionally, as a trained therapist, I bring a deep capacity for listening and understanding people’s stories, allowing me to create meaningful and heartfelt ceremonies that truly reflect the lives of those we celebrate.
Whether it’s a traditional service, a more unconventional remembrance, or a celebration of life, I’m here to guide you in crafting a farewell that speaks to the heart of the person who has died. More people are choosing direct cremations followed by a celebration of life event. These celebrations can happen wherever feels right and you are not tied to short time slots. It would be my privilege to help you create a special and fitting memorial.
